The First One Hundred
No. 2
A sculptural walnut piece with pronounced burl figure, its silhouette swelling and narrowing instead of running straight. Brass fittings warm up the wood's dark knots and swirling grain.
This is the one that breaks from the cylinder on purpose. The body swells toward the center and tapers at both ends, a shape closer to a held object than a standard barrel, and the walnut chosen for it has real character: dark burl knots, swirling figure, a couple of patches where the grain folds back on itself.

This is the one that breaks from the cylinder on purpose. The body swells toward the center and tapers at both ends, a shape closer to a held object than a standard barrel, and the walnut chosen for it has real character: dark burl knots, swirling figure, a couple of patches where the grain folds back on itself.
Brass fittings, not silver, were the right call here, since they pick up the wood's warm undertones instead of fighting them. Not a pen for someone who wants a straight line. A pen for someone who wants to hold something a little unexpected.
