Material, surface and intention.
This LIGNORAE fountain pen is crafted from European holly wood (Ilex aquifolium), known in Romanian as laur. Naturally pale, fine-grained, and understated, holly offers a calm visual presence that feels almost ivory-like without losing the warmth of wood.
To give the material more depth, the surface has been lightly toned with small accents of antique-gold paste. The effect is deliberately subtle: not gilded, not metallic, but gently warmed, allowing the natural character of the wood to remain central.
The pale body is paired with brushed stainless-steel components, creating a contrast between organic softness and precise metal geometry. At the writing end, a Bock No. 6 M stainless steel nib provides a reliable, smooth, medium line suitable for daily use.
Each piece is individually made and finished by hand. Natural variations in grain, tone, and surface pattern are part of the material’s identity and make every pen unique.
